A cosmic gorilla effect could blind the detection of aliens

One of the problems that have long intrigued experts in cosmology is how to detect possible extraterrestrial signals. Are we really looking in the right direction? Maybe not, according to the study that the neuropsychologists Gabriel de la Torre and Manuel García, from the University of Cádiz, publish in the journal Acta Astronautica.

"When we think of other intelligent beings, we tend to see them from our perceptive and conscience sieve; however we are limited by our sui generis vision of the world, and it's hard for us to admit it," says De la Torre, who prefers to avoid the terms 'extraterrestrial' or 'alien' by its Hollywood connotations and use another more generic, as 'non-terrestrial'.

"What we are trying to do with this differentiation is to contemplate other possibilities –he says– , for example, beings of dimensions that our mind cannot grasp; or intelligences based on dark matter or energy forms, which make up almost 95% of the universe and which we are only beginning to glimpse. There is even the possibility that other universes exist, as the texts of Stephen Hawking and other scientists indicate."

A very plausible theory. We can see the same effect at work all around the world from a social perspective, absolutely blinding truth even though it might be standing right in front of a person.

I read an excellent article on the Great Filter Theory (or Fermi Paradox) that discusses this topic in detail.

https://waitbutwhy.com/2014/05/fermi-paradox.html

Below the heading "Explanation Group 2: Type II and III intelligent civilizations are out there—and there are logical reasons why we might not have heard from them", possibilities 2,3,4,5,6,8,9 and 10 offer reasonable explanations as to why we haven't observed or been able to observe any other intelligent civilizations.

It's worth a read for sure.

The most logical reason is that they're no longer using electromagnetic waves (radio, light, game rays etc.) for comminications, which is what we've been looking for. For all we know they've solved our perceived limits  with quantum entanglement.

in my mind this seems most likely

if proper deep space travel is to be possible then there HAS to be a better form of communication that's not limited by the speed of light from using electromagnetic waves.
