Betelgeuse
When it was released, the original Sims game was both groundbreaking and critically acclaimed. With the addition of its 7 expansion packs, The Sims encompasses an enormous amount of compelling content and added gameplay. The development of The Sims 2, the next generation of the number one selling PC game of all time, is a huge undertaking and the bar has been set high.We have shown The Sims 2 to many players and members of the press to incredibly encouraging feedback and are extremely happy with the direction the product is going. We will be taking this opportunity to further polish the game in order to fulfill our ultimate product vision. EA will ship The Sims 2 in the later half of Calendar Year '04. We have learned from past launches that a game is ready when it is ready. The extra time in the studio will ensure a great game ? one that is consistent with the high standards set by EA?s Maxis studio. When games spend more time in the studio, it almost always results in a better experience for the people that play them. Sou:(e :(

lieb39
This is dissapointing, however I guess we can expect a better, bugfree game. Worth it I guess... *changes countdown* -lieb39
GenesisNZ
[rant] Although I'm glad they've made the decision to ensure the game is bug free, it seems there?s a increasing number of game developers/releasers/whatever coming out with release dates that they seem to never able to meet. I wish they would make sure the game is bug free, before releasing any sort of release date. It really ****es me off.. [/rant]
NeoMasamune
 Another game delayed. What else is new?
Chode
Ha ha. I mean, developers should take a page from the book of Coolio... "Why are we -- so blind to see That the ones we hurt -- are you and me" (for those who miss the painfully obvious.....this is a joke comparison where the song is sung by developers...meaning "we" refer to developers and "you" refers to their fans/those who plan to play the game)
ryoujikaji
I'd rather give em more time than releasing it too early  learn from dx2

[/rant] Keep in mind alot of the release dates are not set by the developers...but by the marketing departments to help generate hype. Marketing will ask the developers for a rough date of completion and then usually marketing ends up publicizing some ridiculous date that the developers know they will not be meeting.
