Tran
Whenever I try to emerge anything I get a "Segmentation Fault" right off the bat. Nothing happens. I do "emerge -up world" just to see if it'd work but then I get "segmentation fault (core dumped)". Anything that has to do with emerge, I get a segmentation fault. If I type in "hdparm" for example, everything is fine and dandy, it's just the emerge command that's giving me problems. Can someone help me? Thanks. I swear the Gentoo Penguin has something against me. EDIT: I posted this over at the Gentoo Forums but haven't been much help. Link. MrStaticVoid
Try: cd / && tar -xvjpf /usr/portage/sys-apps/portage/files/portage-rescue-2.0.47-r10-x86.tbz2 && emerge portage
Tran
Sorry for the late reply, went out for a while. Anyway I did what you said and this is what I got (just end of it): >>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache... >>> sys-apps/portage-2.0.49-r21 merged. sys-apps/portage selected: none protected: 2.0.49-r21 omitted: none >>> clean: No packages selected for removal. >>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache... >>> Auto-cleaning packages ... >>> No outdated packages were found on your system. * GNU info directory index is up-to-date. * IMPORTANT: 3 config files in /etc need updating. * Type emerge --help config to learn how to update config files. gentoo / # emerge -up world Segmentation fault (core dumped) Oh yeah, when I do etc-update it gives me: gentoo / # etc-update Scanning Configuration files... Exiting: Nothing left to do; exiting. I also get this (when doing what you told me to do): >>> original instance of package unmerged safely. * NOTICE: PLEASE *REPLACE* your make.globals. All user changes to variables * in make.globals should be placed in make.conf. DO NOT MODIFY make.globals. * Feature additions are noted in help and make.conf.example descriptions. * Update configs using 'etc-update' please. Maintaining current configs * for portage and other system packages is fairly important for the * continued health of your system. Recalculating the counter... /usr/sbin/ebuild.sh: line 1367: 26867 Segmentation fault (core dumped) python -c 'import sys; sys.path = ["/usr/lib/portage/pym"]+sys.path; import portage; portage.db["/"]["vartree"].dbapi.counter_tick("/")' >&/dev/null FAILED to update counter. Tran
OK after a few reboots portage seems to be working again. However, another problem presents itself. See if anyone can help me. Tran
Bah! I think I screwed my system over some more. I can't stop tinkering with it (UDMA and other stuff). Well... thank god for my iPod, it's like my backup drive. I'll post later in 20 or so hours.
