nazgul
I'd say it's just too far off to tell at this point... but at the very least, you'll need a DX9 card, which the 9600 IS.
psychoge3k
Doom 3 uses OpenGL ;). ID Software are huge fans of OpenGL, with good reason too. So any good card capable of OpenGL should be fine.
Chode
I heard somewhere that NVIDIA cards handle OpenGL slightly faster than ATI (haven't seen figures to back this up) I think Id favours OpenGL because it isn't as Windows specific as DirectX, meaning that it would be a simple matter to port the game to Linux, Mac, etc. The official release back about July last year puts the requirements as: Minimum: CPU: 800 MHZ - 1 GHZ GeForce 3 TI/ATi 9600 Pro RAM: 256 MB RAM Standard: CPU: 1,7GHZ-2GHZ GeForce 4 TI 4400/4600/ATi 9700/Pro RAM: 512 MB RAM Optimal: CPU: 2.5 GHZ - 2.8 GHZ GeForce 5800FX/5900FX/ATi 9800 Pro RAM: 786-1024 MB RAM . My system fits into the Standard category: An Athlon XP 1700+, 512MB RAM, a GeForce 4 Ti4800 :D Woot. These may have been updated though, as these were released a while back now. Doom I always made me motion sick until I saw it running smick on a pentium 90. I sometimes wonder how it would run on my computer now.....but realise I'd become frustrated without the ability to jump/crouch. I wonder if in ten years time me or some other gamer will be going....."What, there is no way I could ever play Doom 3...what it has no support for 3D monitors, and the patch to convert the controls over to neural interfaces is buggy as hell....heck, do they even support that old OpenGL anymore?" Chode
 I can't wait for those days! I'll probably be one of those retro gamers who keep playing some Doom 3 mod with a name like "UnHoly Wars" or something and play nothing but that. Thats what I heard to. I dont think that the requirements should kill us that bad. But yea, a 9600 pro should handle the game fine imop. But then again, who knows.

Pentaborane
how well do you think my system specs will run doom 3 from what we know so far... nazgul
how well do you think my system specs will run doom 3 from what we know so far...Corsair 512 MB DDR AMD barton 2500+ (overclocked to 3200+ level) ATI 9600xt (ALL OVERCLOCKED) It'll be able to run it, playably, I'd expect... but just HOW well, or at what quality is really impossible to say at this point. I can say that my system (about the same as yours) can play the alpha at 800x600 averaging about 30 FPS... but that really doesn't mean anything, considering the extremely outdated nature of the alpha.
