UT2004 demo

Recommended Posts

As posted in the Epic forums tonight the UT demo is going to be released WITHIN the next 2 weeks.

from Mark Rein, VP @ Epic Games:

Did anybody actually read what I said last year? I said that we were "MORE THAN two weeks away..." from the demo but for some reason people took that to mean we were two weeks away. Go figure.

This time however I said "the UT2004 demo will be released within two weeks". So in other words, we're really close. Will it be tomorrow or over the weekend? No. But sometime within the next two weeks.

Read it here!

I can't wait.

LOL 2 weeks

Check out their official forum, the 2 weeks thing is a running joke, they always say that. I think it's kinda the staple with Epic. Anyway, Clocks ticking, i'm kinda eager to check it out actually, see if it's worthing shelling out the Green for considering it's not backwards compatible.

Yes, that damn long running 2 week joke is everywhere on that board. But this time Mark made the specific remark that THIS time it will be released WITHIN 2 weeks.

I hope he learned from the last time he said two weeks cause if not I am going to be pi$$ed!!!

wouldn't it just be better to make a demo that works, say it'll be out within two weeks and do it after 1.3? it just seems like the game companies (in general) are asking to get ass-raped w/o any lube everytime they say something is going to come out on a certain date.

i mean, i realise that most things have to have relesase dates (ie movies), but in recent gamin history, there just seem to be a number of high profile game delays becuase game companies couldn't keep their fat mouths shut.

Ya, I fully agree with you. I think Epic learned their lesson last version when they did say it would be out in two weeks and it ended up being like 3 months.

IMO I think game companies will be moving to very vague release dates until such time as they are almost ready to go gold with it. Delays are just the nature of software development in general.

Interesting, would love to check it out.

Yep..and that is why DNF has the most accurate release date amongst all games! :ninja:

Yes, the demo is all multiplayer. It will include the following as per CliffyB, Epic Developer.

CliffyB: Currently, the UT2004 demo is 1 Onslaught map, 1 Assault map, 1 BR, and one CTF. No mutators. One "Team" of characters (Thunder Crash - Malcolm's team - including the girls on his team)...

CliffyB: YES, there is one DM map (and teamDM, I believe) in the Demo

So it looks like it will be a small demo but I can't wait none the less.

quote from http://www.ut2k3.net/archive2q02.php

"In terms of releasing the demo we're still <b>over<b> a week away, maybe over two weeks away but we are making very good progress and the game is coming together really nicely." - Mark Rein, Epic Games"

that's what he said last year.

quote "This time however I said "the UT2004 demo will be released within two weeks". "

I  "Unreal" and I think we should believe mr. Rein in what he say's :ninja:

he shouldn't have to defend himself like that IMO

UT2K3 is IMHO a evolved UT; great game!! :punk: (Y)

and I hope UT2K4 will be better for everyone (Y)

There will be more than enough mirrors when this is released, though a BT release wouldnt be too bad, except for the fact that most people download the file then stop the client, thus defeating the object :(
