Hummel
Hi there. I plan to buy an iBook, and i've a wireless network at home (D-Link DI 614+ Switch/Router). So the question is, can it connect to this wireless-network (with AirPort), and is it able to go online via the router. It's important to know it, because i have to work looooong and haaaaard to afford it :) Thanks for your help :D

Hummel
which should i get instead? and thanks for the fast help (Y)!
Southern Patriot
Your iBook will only be able to support one or the other. Look at your manual to see. Anything made after (I think) March of 2003 uses Airport Extreme, anything before that uses standard Airport.

Southern Patriot
G3 iBook = AirportG4 iBook = Airport Extreme Thanks for clarifying that. I was going to say that, but I couldn't remember for sure if the last of the G3 iBooks had AE or A.
hanxuuk
Does the D-Link DWL122 work with ibook G3/G4 as well? Xu Han
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted February 2, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 2, 2004 I would imagine it does, but you're better off getting an AirPort card because it gets hidden under the keyboard and doesn't hang off the machine.
Pilsbury
The Airport card, while being a PC Card (aka PCMCIA), is slightly shorter than a normal card... Airport Extreme card is a mini-PCI card
mihir
i recommend a regular airport card becaue 54g suffers massive signal loss if there's a wall or something in between, plus the rest of your equipment is probably 11b.
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted February 4, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 4, 2004 Well, the AP and AE sockets are not compatible, so you are forced into either type.
