Costco is selling a variant of the Surface Go with 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD [Update]

A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft announced the latest member of the Surface family, the Surface Go. Starting at $399, it's powered by an Intel Pentium Gold CPU and has a 10-inch display. It comes in two configurations: 4GB RAM and 64GB eMMC storage, or 8GB RAM and a 128GB SSD.

However, Costco is selling a third model that no one else seems to have, which includes 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD. This might be a nice compromise between the two other flavors, as eMMC storage is much slower than an SSD. With the two models that Microsoft is selling, you'd have to jump from the price of $399 for the base model to $549 for the higher end variant to get that boost in storage performance.

Costco's model also costs $549, but it comes bundled with the black Signature Type Cover. The black one is the one that's not made of Alcantara fabric, so it's a $99 value.

We've reached out to both Microsoft and Costco for official statements regarding this, and should be hearing back soon enough. We also reached out to Costco customer support, which confirmed that the specs are indeed accurate, although it couldn't confirm that the configuration is exclusive to Costco.

If you want to check it out, you can find it on Costco's website here. You can pre-order it now, and it ships on August 2.

Update: Microsoft has finally confirmed to Neowin that this is indeed a special configuration for Costco.
