Steven P. Administrators Posted January 31, 2004 Administrators Share Posted January 31, 2004 Neowin is self sufficent (survives through ad views and the revenue from it) which means everyone who frequents Neowin and doesnt run ad blocking software (for banners) contributes to our pro-longed existance. We tried various forms of sponsorship but it never worked out, paying our own way and making our own decisions on the course of the site is way better imo and we are more informed about cost, resources and what we need to keep a server running to meet our needs. Wannes
I do run add blocking software but I think Neowin is on my allow list. Does that mean adds running on Neowin get allowed? :)
Steven P. Administrators Posted January 31, 2004 Administrators Share Posted January 31, 2004 if you can see an ad at the top of the page then you are helping  Draconian Guppy 1 Share

snippet1
Does it help for me to bulk click? Or does it realise I'm bulling it?
Steven P. Administrators Posted January 31, 2004 Administrators Share Posted January 31, 2004 Does it help for me to bulk click? Or does it realise I'm bulling it? the ads only allow so many registered clicks per IP to prevent abuse Draconian Guppy 1 Share
akaladis Veteran Posted January 31, 2004 Veteran Share Posted January 31, 2004 no ad blocking stuff here either :) power to neowin! /Raptor
Maverick
Me neither. Someone needs to write a script that checks for ad blocking software and won't allow them in unless they turn it off. :p *joke*
TruBD
so how much money do those ads give u guys on avg a month?
Wannes
I think this depends on clicks and pageviews.
MrWatchDawg
I pay for Neowin! Got a problem with that? LOL!
VidER
packetnews.com has a script to prevent those who block pop-ups from browsing the site.. I think Neowin should do that also. VidER

null_
Popups would suck.. I believe Neowin had them for a very short period of time when they were hosted with MikeMTH or something like that.
Wannes
Pop ups will lead to Neowin loosing members. They won't take that risk.
MrWatchDawg
Yah we had pop-ups when we were hosted for free from MikeMTH but we dropped him as soon as we saw that members hated it!
Wannes
Yea, it's kinda logical people hate pop-ups. They jump from nowhere! Worst of all are those moving pop ups, those that like vibrate. ;)
BxBoy
I love pop-ups!

VidER
Guys I didn't suggest adding pop-ups! I said packetnews has a script to prevent those who block pop-ups.. I meant to suggest that neowin adds a similar script that prevent those who block the banners! Just to ensure that everybody allows neowin banners to appear..
