i dont understand what you are asking

do you want to format and reinstall windows on fat32?

I always thought you could use fdisk to that

1. grab a win98 bootdisk at www.bootdisk.com

2. startup off that boot disk

3. type fdisk

4. delete the ntfs partition (it shoudl be in the unknown filesystem listing)

5. create a new partition

6. restart your computer and format by typing format c: (or whatever you use)

shouldn't this set it back to fat32?

if you are using windowsxp just install it on the existing file system.

correct me if i am wrong ... about what i said or if that is noty what you mean in your post

If you want to run a game in Windows 98, try compatibility mode. Otherwise if you really want to re-format and reinstal windows here's how to go about that. (You can not format, but convert into FAT32 using partition magic or system commander, but you'll still have xp and you could have problems as well)

Get a win98 boot disk (or millennium... anything win boot disk that ran in FATx).

Boot onto that disk without CD-ROM support.

Type FDISK /MBR. That will clear out your master boot record. You shouldn't get any response from that command.

Type FDISK. Go in and delete your NTFS partition, then create a FAT partition.

Restart still booting from the floppy with CD-ROM support. You should now be able to get to your C: drive.

Type C: then FORMAT C: . Follow the prompts. When it asks for a label for your newly formatted drive, type SIMPLEX because it's a cool name ;) .

Type D: (where D is your CD-ROM drive) and have fun installing that piece of trash that crashes every 2 minutes. Use the FAT32 converter in WIN98 to convert your drive to FAT32 after you have installed windows.

I hope you don't do this. Use XP. It's good.

Does the operating system detect that Partition Tragic 7 is reverting the system back to FAT32 and stop all the services that NTFS Requires??

i think he formated his disk to ntfs

and wants to revert back to fat 32

the fdisk way is to delete all logical disk partitions and re create them

or u can just use partition magic 7 as state above :-)

As far as I know, teh only differnence between the Partition Magic and trpn's fdisk route is that Partition Magic _converts_ so that you shouldn't lose any data, where as fdisk will start you from scratch on that partition.

From MS Help file on the convert utility

Important

Once you convert a drive or partition to NTFS, you cannot simply convert it back to FAT or FAT32. You will need to reformat the drive or partition which will erase all data including programs and personal files on the partition.

Try it one day, see if it works. Everyone says use PM 7 and it never works.
