News article comment layout is a bit rubbish

Not only do comments, replies and quotes shift around, it's been like this for probably at least a year.

They're basically all over the place (and they move around randomly when you re-visit the comments a short time after).

Can this be fixed? :)

I've never had that problem. Maybe try emptying your cache?

Nothing wrong on my end.

It's clearly a page layout issue. My cache wouldn't re-organise how tables etc. work on a website.

the FPN comments section is planned to be completely re-written from what i've heard. There have been talks on and off for over a year now but the devs just have a lot of other things on their plates along with their own personal lives that it keeps getting pushed back.

@Steven P. and @sheinbein and @DaveLegg any chance this could be bumped up again? a better commenting system for FPN would be greatly appreciated by everyone :)

Yeah, that's what I see.

But my point is, at least they're in the correct order, unlike in the screenshot in the first post :(

It looks like an issue with the sort order for child comments. The default sort order is oldest first, which is why most people don't run into this issue. You have it set to newest first, and it looks like the top-level comments are correctly sorting in this order, but the child comments within that seem to be sorting oldest first. It should be a simple fix, but you'll understand that with the server move going on at the moment, it may take a little while to get around to looking at it. In the mean time, you could try switching to one of the other sort options, either oldest first (threaded), or either of the linear options, and you should find that all three of those options don't have issues with the sorting being a bit wonky.
