Can't install printer, missing Windows file

Recommended Posts

I hope you good folks can help me out here...I've been trying to install 2 HP printers on a friends Windows 7 HP laptop but at a point during the installation it says "the file serscan.sys on Windows cd is needed". I happen to have a Windows 7 disk but when I try to locate the file on the disk I can't find it. I have opened all of the folders and searched for it but unless I'm missing something I can't find it anywhere. Can you please let me know how I can find it? Or if there is a download for it somewhere I'd appreciate it if you could point it out to me. I've tried installing the printers wirelessly and with a USB cable but it won't work either way without this file. Thanks for your help.

Best practice is to upgrade to Windows 10 and use a modern supported printer, these are normally PnP and come with a good driver disk or the drivers available online.

Unfortunately I don't see any of those. How can I get it off the Windows 7 disk? I don't see how to get it off the directory.

I have a laptop running Windows 10 from which I can copy the serscan.sys file. Could that work on a windows 7 machine?
