There are species of trees that even require fire to help spread their seeds. The Jack pine contains sap that protects the cones from animals. When the fire passes, it melts the sap allowing the cone to spread the seeds. What the pic you presented shows is actual burnt trees. You just can't get a full grasp from the limited resolution. But what the pic does show is that the underbrush and lower portions of the trees are cleared out, That will allow for more sunlight to get through to the ground which helps spark the new growth that will happen now. Fires are also finicky, sometimes they can skip entire areas of land while completely burning everything else around it to ashes.
