vespaman
hi i just bought a Microsoft Wireless Notebook adapter MN-520. and also a friend of mine have Suse Linux v9. i wonder will i be able to install Suse into my Dell Inspiron 4000 notebook and just plug in the adapter card without any hassles? i'm totally new in linux thing...should i make an image of hard drive first (current OS is WinXP Pro) by using Nero (any other suggestions?) then try to install Suse (i'm talking using the whole drive for linux)? Has anyone experienced this before? Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advance :)
isak
If you'r really lucky it will just work. My guess will you will have to search for the actuall chip the card uses and then see if you can find some opensource drivers. MS may have also just gimped the card so it will only work in Windows. Best bet would be to google and see if you can find any information.
LordHatrus
why would you want to make an image of the HDD...... using NERO???? Dude..... how big is your drive..... that could be A LOT of CDs or DVDs to burn..... The recommended way to install linux is to create a partition on your hard disk, or have a second hard disk, If you want to keep Windows. anyway, I think SuSe will be fine with the *Caugh* Microsoft hardware. But I don't use Suse..... I use slackware and a hiighly customised version of red hat for my small cluster :) edit: I looked at the supported hardware on the SuSe site.... and It's amazing that Microsoft doesn't send any of their products in to be SuSe Certified! Didn't see that one coming! Edited February 2, 2004 by LordHatrus
vespaman
i may create an image just in case the suse won't work with the wireless adapter. but if it's too big i won't do it. well, i guess i've to try it then and if it doesn't work i'll just have to back to windows environment :p wish me luck guys!
