Samsung fixes battery drain issue with the Gear S3 in fresh update

Last month, a considerable number of Gear S3 and Gear Sport users took to the Samsung Community forum page to complain about a battery drain issue with their smartwatches following an update. The exact cause of the problem was never known, but a forum moderator revealed at the time that the company was working on a fix.

Now, Samsung has finally rolled out an update that fixes the battery problem only for the Gear S3. It is initially available to all users in the U.S. and Europe, though customers in other territories are expected to receive it over the next few days.

The latest update comes in at 10.17MB and bumps up the software version to R760XXU2CRK2/R760OXA2CRK2. Aside from the battery fix, it also packs improvements that will make downloading apps from the Galaxy Apps Store more reliable. To download the update, open the Galaxy Wearable (Samsung Gear) app on your phone, head over to "About Gear", and then to the "Update Gear software" section under the Settings tab.

It's not clear when Samsung will push out a fix for the Gear Sport, but it shouldn't take that long. The Gear S3, in particular, seems to have had several instances of battery problems in recent times. Earlier this year, Samsung released an update to the wearable device with improvements to battery life and Bluetooth connectivity after it suffered significant battery life loss.
