Drimo
I started using linux with Red Hat 5.2, but never really got into using it as a dedicated operating system until this past summer. I used Mandrake off and on between these times because it was easily setup from a fresh install, had loads of applications by default, and was easy to learn. I installed Fedora last night and must admit that I am completely blown away by it. It seems to be designed to give new users a feel for the power of linux while limiting their capabilities (as a distro should, but within reason). Fedora is definitely a product I'm going to keep around for a while, and I'd even pay for it for continued use. I'm that impressed by it.

SunnyB
Debian is on the rise. My first go at Linux was with Debian Woody. Installed like a dream and have had only one problem with mouse speeds but solved it easily. Start with Debian and you won't be sorry. Download the entire 8 or 9 CD set and install it all. Apache server, mail server, firewall on first install without a hitch. :woot:

markwolfe Veteran Posted February 5, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 5, 2004 I'll have to second that SUSE recommendation above! I just tried the LiveCD version on my Win2k desktop here at work, and SUSE is very well-done!
