CES 2019: Hands-on with the fully customizable Nemeio e-ink keyboard

There are thousands of PC accessories on the market currently from big companies, with dozens more being born through crowdfunding efforts and other means. But since the dawn of the computer, one of the most important ways of interacting with a PC has been with a keyboard. Although most might settle with what comes prepackaged, others might want something a bit more flexible and versatile. That's where Nemeio comes in, a keyboard that can be fully customized thanks to its small e-ink displays used for each key.

This isn't the first time we are seeing a keyboard like the Nemeio but it's always nice to see something new arrive in this space. The company states that it has a vision where its keyboards will not only be used in the home or office, but also in more commercial settings or other specialized situations, where customized keys can save time and money. The firm has its own app developed that will interface with the keyboard, allowing a simple and powerful way to fully customize each key.

Although the models being shown during CES 2019 are just prototypes, it does give us an idea of how the keyboard will look and feel when it comes to be available to the public. While the overall build quality of the unit is good, the keys still need a bit of work. The company is well aware, stating it is still refining key travel and will hopefully be able to fix the slight resistance that is currently felt when pressing the keys.

As for connectivity, the unit can connect via its USB Type A or Type C ports, and also even Bluetooth. The USB A port can be used to charge other devices thanks to the unit's built-in battery. As for buttons, there are two toggle switches on the side that can change keyboard layouts and a physical power button. While there isn't a price, the keyboard is expected to be available in by December.
