Xiaomi is preparing to unveil Mi 9 flagship on February 20th

Xiaomi has announced via social media that it is preparing to launch its next flagship device, the Mi 9. Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi announced that the firm would be showing off the new flagship on February 20th and that its internal codename is “Battle Angel”. Other than that, he described it as “super-powerful” and the “best-looking” Xiaomi phone so far.

While Lei Jun’s details were a bit sparse, back in November we got some details about what hardware the device could feature. The Mi 9 is expected to come with a triple-camera setup with the main camera able to shoot 48-megapixel quality images. Additionally, the device will feature 6/8GB of RAM which will provide a smooth experience, and it’s expected to use an in-display fingerprint sensor.

In terms of the processor, the previous leak said that the Mi 9 will ship with a Snapdragon 855 which is built on the 7nm process and provides better speeds, more battery life and improved connectivity - including support for upcoming 5G mobile networks.

Samsung followers may have noticed that this event and the Samsung UNPACKED event almost clash, with both taking place on the same day. Luckily, Samsung’s S10 series will be shown off in San Francisco while Xiaomi’s event is taking place in China so there is a 16-hour time difference so they probably won't clash.

Despite the Mi 9’s great specs, it’s only going to be priced at 2,999 yuan or $440 which is fairly modest when compared to some offerings.
