Steve
Go into Sys prefs / accounts / "your name" and there's a 'startup items' tab, it'll probably be in there...

ReAnimation
Programs could be starting up from the registry also. Run regedit and go to HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run You should see a few keys that programs have put in there that launch on startup and hide in the backround. Make sure you know what you are doing though... you don't want to trash your registry! Do'h - forget that - I did'nt see you wanted help for Mac O/S! Sorry....

Spacedog
Try looking in '/Library/StartupItems/ (that's the "System" library, not your personal account library). It should be there.
