Which ordering does Task Manager use?

I've popped them into Name order but 'Background processes', whilst being some kind of vague order, is not in strictly alphabetical order.

How are they being sorted internally?

Keep scrolling down in the 'Background processes' section.

Does it continue to be strictly alphabetical?

Nicely spotted! If I put Name into reverse order then back into standard order, they do indeed go into order!

If you look it actually is alpha order   with one caveat, it is alpha by type of app.

If you want alpha of the process name, go to the details tab.  That will allow you to sort by process name et all.

I think the background process group needs to be updated and broken up between background tasks for apps and those for the OS.

Heck, they should take the time and update the whole thing at this point.
