Nintendo adds Kid Icarus and Star Tropics to the NES Switch Online app

Nintendo adds new Nintendo Entertainment System games to the Switch Online app every month, as it has done since the service was launched in September of last year. For March, the company has added two games which might not be familiar to most people - Kid Icarus and Star Tropics.

Kid Icarus is one of Nintendo's older franchises, debuting in 1986 in Japan and the following year worldwide. The franchise has been dormant for most of its existence, but Nintendo did revive it for the 3DS back in 2012 with Kid Icarus: Uprising. The original game is a platformer in which you control Pit, an angel with a bow and arrow, trying to rescue Palutena, the goddess of light, and stop the evil ploy of Medusa.

Star Tropics, on the other hand, is an adventure game in which you play as Mike Jones, a baseball pitcher who has to rescue his uncle who has been abducted from his lab in the tropics. The game has the player navigating through dangerous levels and collecting new weapons to help them along the way.

In addition to the new titles, Nintendo has also added special editions for Kirby's Adventure and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, both of which were added to the service earlier this year. Kirby's Adventure SP will let you play the more difficult Extra Game right away, instead of requiring you to beat the main game first. As for the Zelda title, you'll start out with maxed out Attack, Magic, and Life, making it much easier to plow through the game.

The new games are available now by updating the NES: Nintendo Switch Online app, though they were originally meant to be released tomorrow.
