Hands on with an early preview of Microsoft's Chromium-powered Edge browser

It was early December when Microsoft first announced that its in-house Edge browser would soon be powered by Google's open-source Chromium. Pretty much everything about it has leaked, from screenshots to an Addon page to an FAQ to the installer, which didn't work. Today though, the whole thing leaked.

Naturally, we installed it, and frankly, it's most of what I hoped for. Certain things are missing, such as the ability to write on webpages and PDFs. Presumably, that's coming later on.

What is there is a seamless way to move from Chrome to the new Edge. As soon as you start up the new browser, it will give you the option to import everything from Chrome, and that includes not only bookmarks, but your history and saved passwords as well.

The browser has a dark mode that's hidden under flags, and it can use your system settings, unlike the current Edge. You can also finally refresh a webpage from the pop-up menu when you right-click.

Extensions can either come from Microsoft or from another store, including the Chrome Web Store. All you have to do is flip a switch in the settings. Check out our hands-on video below:
