Nearly a year ago, Apple scrapped the Steam Link app after initially granting permission for the app to be listed on its App Store. The rejection was due to what Apple described as "business conflicts with app guidelines that had allegedly not been realized by the original review team." Since then, Valve has continued to develop the Android version and even introduced Steam Link to the Raspberry Pi 3.
Thankfully, it now appears that both Valve and the Cupertino tech giant have come to terms as Steam Link is now available to download from the App Store for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV devices. The app is built to allow users to stream their games to phones, tablets, and TVs from their PC for free. Of course, instead of relying on touch controls, Apple users can pair an MFI ("Made for iPhone/iPod/iPad") or a Steam controller to their device for playing these streamed games.
It seems iOS users need to connect to a computer running Steam on the same local network in order to use the app, as the Steam Link Anywhere beta functionality from the Android app that removed this necessity is not available on the iOS version of the app yet.
There's no word, however, from Apple or Valve as to what agreement was reached that led to the approval of the app. Nonetheless, the availability of Steam Link on Apple's online storefront is a welcome development for gamers.
