Microsoft announces the new Pro IntelliMouse

Microsoft's IntelliMouse is something of a classic among PC mice, and in 2017 the company brought back the lineup with the Classic IntelliMouse. Now, though, it's getting a number of upgrades with the new Microsoft Pro IntelliMouse, which aims to be good for general use, but also even suitable for gaming.

The new Pro IntelliMouse has a new tracking sensor, with a tracking speed of 400 inches per second and a report rate of 1,000 reports per second which can be customized through the Windows Mouse and Keyboard Center (MKC). The sensor is the PixArt PAW3389PRO-MS.

In addition to the improvements to the sensor, Microsoft made many tweaks to the design, such as the shadow color gradient that's meant to replicate the same look that's common in many Xbox Accessories. Microsoft also improved the key actuation, added a textured finish, and even a braided cable to improve the longevity of the hardware.

The mouse has five buttons, three of which are customizable with MKC, and you can also change the color of the taillight on the mouse, something which tends to be popular in gaming setups. Otherwise, the new Pro IntelliMouse retains the familiar aspects of previous iterations, with its ergonomic design and the exclusively wired connection, which should at least be more reliable than a wireless one.

The new Pro IntelliMouse is already available through the Microsoft Store in the United States and Canada, and it costs $59.99. It comes in either Light Shadow or Dark Shadow color options. Those in other markets, including Europe, will need to wait until July to get their hands on one.
