Vermintide 2 gets a PvP Versus mode; beta signups open now

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is getting a PvP versus mode, developer Fatshark announced at the PC Gaming Show during E3 today.

Simply called Versus, the mode pits two teams of four players against each other, with one team controlling enemy factions and the other playing as the heroes. A match will have two rounds, swapping the factions for the two teams, with the winner being the team that managed to progress the farthest during the mission.

This is the first game in the series getting a coop PvP mode, resembling the likeness of Valve’s Left 4 Dead series. It’s not clear yet how this new mode will affect the game’s RPG progression system. The trailer embedded above, however, does seem promising.

Although Fatshark has previously said that it had no plans to implement a PvP mode for Vermintide 2, the developer says it has always been “in the corner of [its] minds.” Versus, per the developer, was developed by its teams during “Hack Weeks,” when they work on ideas that they believe are “powerful enough to impact the company” rather than working on official product pipeline.

Versus mode beta begins today. If you wish to try it out, signups are available here. Additionally, the game is discounted by 60% on Steam until June 12.
