Mindovermaster Moderator Posted July 3, 2019 Moderator Share Posted July 3, 2019 What video card does he currntly have? Budget would help, too. I belive since the NVIDIA 580, all video cards could run 4k. (don't quote me on that)
theefool
Back in 2014 I was playing games at 4k with GTX 970 in SLI. Now my current computer I use a GTX 1080ti. Both of these are inexpensive for me. What would inexpensive be considered for you? Peresvet 1 Share

Every current GPU (from the £26 NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 / £35 AMD Radeon R5 230 upward) support outputting a 4096×2160 resolution.
cacoe
I think a crucial question which hasn't been asked is... what is it going to be used for? medhunter 1 Share

Even a 1660 Ti ($279) is barely able to get 30fps at 4k in a lot of new games, which would be a miserable experience. For a low budget he'd be better off sticking to 1080p, unless he only plays old games, then it might be ok. Edited July 3, 2019 by ZakO
cacoe
A GTX 1660 is $220 and can't handle 4k gaming (anything new at least) You're probably going to want a RTX 2070 at the very least which are going for $500.

Oh that's cheeky putting the 1060 above the 580 😋 It's dependant on the games you're playing there. Still nothing on this list is even close to being used for 4k gaming at 60fps... you'd probably struggle at 30fps.
