Black Shark 2 Pro to debut on July 30, likely powered by Snapdragon 855 Plus

The gaming smartphone segment has been steadily growing over the past couple of months, thanks to devices that pack top-tier internals with a price that doesn't break the bank. Major Chinese brands dominate this space for the most part.

The Black Shark 2, for example, debuted in China earlier this year for ¥3,199 (~$480), powered by a Snapdragon 855 SoC. Now, the phone is set to see its upgraded sibling by the end of this month.

The Xiaomi-backed company confirmed on Weibo today that the Black Shark 2 Pro will be introduced on July 30. Although the firm did not reveal which aspect of the phone will receive an update, its processor will most likely be bumped up.

GSMArena speculates that the company could follow in the footsteps of its Chinese competitors, such as Red Magic, by including the recently announced Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC in the device. Shortly after the debut of the new processor earlier this week, ASUS confirmed that its upcoming ROG Phone II will be unveiled in the coming weeks featuring the 7nm-based chipset from Qualcomm.

Some of the upgrades introduced by the Snapdragon 855 Plus are in the clock speed, with its Kryo 485 CPU now running at up to 2.96GHz from the original version's 2.84GHz. Its Adreno 640 GPU is also claimed to deliver a 15% speed boost.
