mart3ll
I notice that people still think Microsoft ripped off design schemes and icons from Apple. Just to clarify, IconFactory is a design house that has designed icons for both companies operating systems. They designed the entire new XP set. Joseph Zollo
Oooh! Yep, this pretty much proves it...
nosnhojm
I dont beleive that icons were the primary reasoning for people thinking that winxp was a pseudo-copy of osx. Both companies are working towards making their os's more graphical and user friendly of course, and it just happens that apple gets there first...they always have since the dawn of the gui. mart3ll
My eyes being wide open, I don't really see THAT big of a similarity between OSX and XP. Of course some elements look the same like folders and stuff, but who cares... (gee, both systems used a magnifying glass for search... someone copied!! no no. They know how to properly visualize a function for end users, thats all) OSX has the whole pinstripe aqua thing going on that kicks ass and XP has its luna thing.... being a creative director / designer myself, I really don't compare them as being similar at all. The icons seem to be the most common element between each and OSX wins there with their vector scalability. I totally agree that OSX wins the GUI wars. It's more of a delight for the eyes and the navigation has fun effects. Despite that, I'm still an XP fan and have a PC as my primary computer. Scorbing
Gates has been ripping Apple out since the '70s when he betrayed Steven Jobs. Windows is nothing but MacOS in a different shape.
KNIGHT
Windows is not a rip off of MacOS. It never has been and never will be. They both ripped off Xerox. Apple was just the first to get workable rip to market. The point and click GUI was the inevitable end. Xerox got there first but their execs didn't know the gold mine they had. Jobs found out about the GUI during a tour of Xerox. Gates also found out about it during a tour of Xerox. Jobs was able to get out the new OS first but he wanted full control of the hardware as well. That is why MacOS will not run on IBM clones and will only run on computers from Apple. IBM had their own PCs that ran PC-DOS. PC-DOS was originally called QDOS (Quick and Dirty Operating System) before Microsoft purchased it. With MacOS only running on Apple computers, Microsoft saw a huge market of PCs that didn't have a GUI. Microsoft then created their own rip of Xerox's OS and named it Windows 1.0. Visually, they both look similar, but underneath they are as different from eachother as night and day or Windows 98 and Windows 2000. P.S. If I remember correctly, Xerox also came up with the first mouse.
Shaahin
We still don?t have something like OS 8.5 and old Macs Opening Window styles. Because Microsoft just follows Apple's GUI. I wonder why? Can't they hire some people and do some researches on Visual Interfaces and no Stolen Mac GUIb>? There is no similarity between OSX and WindowsXP. Actually it's similarity betweeOS 8.5 and Windows XPb>. After years, we are just experiencing a little bit of OS 8.5. Why a little bit? Have u ever heard OS 8.5 sound sets? - Drag a window and move it around your desktop. In OS 8.5 you can hear a dynamic stereo sound, which sounds different, in different places of your desktop (While dragging, with normal stereo speakers). We still don't have something like this in XP. Where are our (PC USERS) sound sets? I am not talking about LAME "Plus!" stolen sounds. - In Windows XP we have Icon Transparency and Shadows, and first it was on OS 8.5. Though Microsoft stole it for Windows 2000 (Use WindowsFX in Win2000 and see your windows transparent). Microsoft is trying to fool us. They renamed WinNT 5.0 to 2000 and after that to XP. Windows XP is Windows 2000 and nothing more but some visual & non visual enhancements, and finally a little bit stable. Microsoft should do some researches on it's Own GUI. Not Others!
