Microsoft launches Web Template Studio 2.0 with support for Angular, Vue, and more

A few months ago, Microsoft launched Web Template Studio in preview form, giving developers a new way to create full-stack web apps with Visual Studio Code. The Microsoft Garage project had limited support for web frameworks at first, but today, the company announced an update that addresses that.

With Web Template Studio 2.0, Microsoft is adding some new capabilities to WebTS, starting with support for Angular.js and Vue.js as front-end frameworks, whereas only React was initially available. As for the back-end, in addition to Node.js, you can now use Flask. In terms of services, in addition to storage services courtesy of Azure Cosmos DB, it's now possible to use cloud hosting thanks to the newly-added support for Azure's App Service.

This release also includes some design tweaks and minor improvements. When creating a new project, details such as the name and destination path will be automatically filled in for you, and there's also a new Quick Start pane which lets users see all the steps in the creation wizard at once. Changes have also been made to the "Add Pages" step and the final creation step, which now lets you review project details before finalizing it.

If you want to try the new version of Web Template Studio, you can get it from the Visual Studio Marketplace. Note that you'll need Node and Yarn to be installed as well for it to work. If you have any feedback on the tool, you can make your contributions to the project on GitHub.
