Announced at Mobile World Congress this year, Samsung's Galaxy Fold has had a rocky path. The device even made it into the hands of reviewers in April, when screens started to break. One issue was that reviewers were peeling off the protective cover on the front, thinking that it's a normal screen protector. The launch was delayed, pre-orders were canceled, and so on.
Samsung opened up pre-registrations again this week, and today, the company finally announced the device's relaunch. The Galaxy Fold will be available in South Korean on September 6, with the U.S. launch in the coming weeks. It will be available in Cosmos Black and Space Silver.
In mid-July, Samsung outlined all of the changes it had made to fix the faults with the foldable handset. It strengthened the top and bottom of the hinge, also adding protection caps, and the space between the hinge and the body is smaller. And of course, it's harder to remove the protective layer of the display. It's more prominent that it's an important part of the screen now.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold will come with a Snapdragon 855 chipset, 5G support, 12GB RAM, and 512GB of fast UFS 3.0 storage. It has a triple-lens camera, with a 16MP ultra-wide angle lens, a regular 12MP lens, and a 12MP zoom lens.
