Consumers already can turn their TV into a gaming monitor, for instance, using an HDMI interface. Now, LG Electronics and Nvidia are bringing more improvements to that experience in a new partnership announced today.
Both tech companies will be working together to integrate Nvidia's G-SYNC system into LG's 2019 OLED TVs unveiled earlier this year, specifically the 65/55E9 and 77/65/55C9 models. The South Korean electronics giant claims these new OLED TV models promise immersive gaming experience with reduced flickering or stuttering.
Regarding today's announcement of the new alliance, Matt Wuebbling, Head of GeForce marketing at Nvidia, said:
“We are excited to bring G-SYNC Compatible support to LG’s 2019 OLED TVs and HDMI Variable Refresh Rate support to our GeForce RTX 20-Series GPUs. Gamers will be blown away by the responsiveness and the lifelike visuals on these TVs when playing the latest PC games featuring real-time ray-tracing powered by GeForce.”
The TV models all support 4K resolution and offer a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. LG also says that for these TV units, the input lag is estimated at a 6 milliseconds range for 1440p content at 120Hz and 13 milliseconds range for 4K content at 60Hz. Of course, there's also support for Dolby Atmos and the Dolby TrueHD lossless sound technology.
Compatibility with various HDR formats is also in tow for improved gaming experience. For example, support for HDR10 or Dolby Vision (at up to 120 fps for Full HD content) is available for any compatible content. These formats combine HDMI 2.1 specifications like auto low latency mode, enhanced audio return channel, and variable refresh rate.
The LG OLED TV models equipped with Nvidia G-SYNC are set for launch in select markets through a firmware update that's due for rollout over the coming weeks.
