Roku OS 9.2 to begin rolling out in the coming weeks with search and voice enhancements

Roku has announced that it will begin rolling out Roku OS 9.2 to devices in the coming weeks. With this update, Roku is making content easier to find with Roku Zones and a redesigned 4K Spotlight Channel. Roku Zones will include curated content which is updated regularly so that new content is always accessible. With the redesigned 4K Spotlight Channel, Roku has made it easier to find content using the new Roku Zones architecture.

Some other enhancements that Roku has made pertain to voice features. With Roku OS 9.2, you’ll be able to use your voice to set sleep timers, search for movies using quotes from a film, use voice commands in the Roku Media Player to control playback, and control multiple Roku devices with an Amazon Alexa- or Google Assistant-powered device.

Commenting on the new update, Ilya Asnis, senior vice president of Roku OS at Roku, said:

“The Roku OS allows consumers to easily get to the content they want to watch so they can sit back and relax. With Roku OS 9.2, we are giving our customers new content-rich experiences around 4K, voice and home screen controls.”

Some other smaller tweaks in this update include faster video start times within channels and smarter caching to reduce the number of load screens. Additionally, a new shortcut section on the Home Screen has been added so you can perform tasks faster. Roku OS 9.2 will rollout to some Roku players this month but is expected to arrive on all supported players in the coming weeks. Roku TV models will receive this update in phases over the coming months.
