If you use gnome, you can use file-roller as a gui front end for rar files (it runs unrar, but gives you an interface similar to winrar ;) ). It comes with gnome

ark also works; you can do it in TotalCommander style with krusader.

Or simply install winrar under wine.

use file-roller

it handles the unzip tar gzip bz2 Z rar etc

but u have to install plugins like unrar

on gentoo do

# emerge file-roller

# emerge unrar
