Apple just released macOS 10.15 Catalina to the public several hours ago, but it has quietly put off the launch of a highly requested feature for collaboration. In a footnote on its macOS Catalina feature page, Apple says the iCloud Drive folder sharing won't be coming until the spring of 2020 (via MacRumors).
The Cupertino giant didn't provide any explanation for the delay of this particular feature. Its extended no-show on iCloud is already long overdue given that other cloud-based storage services like Google Drive and Microsoft's OneDrive have long had this capability.
On the other hand, Apple's feature page for iOS 13 still sets the feature's availability later this fall. This applies to iPadOS as well. It's likely, though, that the page hasn't been updated yet. At present, it's only possible to share individual files via iCloud.
When this capability goes live, users will then be able to share folders with a private link, just like they do with a single file. Sharing folders through the cloud has been one of the most useful features of this type of storage system as it allows for sending and receiving documents in bulk especially for group projects, for example.
