Ok what`s so special about Gothic and Gothic 2?

Recommended Posts

Before an hour ago, I have not even heard of Gothic and Gothc 2. Naw I`m seeing people praising it to the point of calling it king of RPG`s , even over the likes of NWN and Morrowind.

Convince me. Describe the two games. What's so special about them? How, why and what makes them better then Morrowind's open play, amazing Graphics, deep and rich worlds. Or NWN amazing 3rd edition rules, with unlimited replayablity through mods and living out childhood memories of playing P&P RPG`s but online with the world.

Don't bother including any links to screenshots or reviews since most sites are blocked here at work. I`m lucky I have access to Neowin from Work. ;)

I've actually been wondering the same thing... I HAD heard of them (they're fairly recent, first in 2001, second from last year I believe), and they had gotten decent reviews, but nothing spectacular... Should check to see if there's a demo out.

Gothic(1) has absolutly horrible controls and one of the worst germanl-to-english translation i ever read.

i played it for about 30min and then uninstalled it. i couldn't get past halfassed controls or content that's wierder than "engrish" :/

maybe later patches corrected these problems, maybe gothic2 is much better game..i don't know

Well, I have played Gothic and Gothic 2 and yes some of the controls in the first one are a tad clunky, but fact of the matter is, the story line and other factors of the gameplay is outstanding. Gothic 2 goes even further, expanding that world, better controls, interface etc.

I have never been a fan of RPG games period, untill I gave Gothic a chance.

Amazing Graphics, Huge Worlds, Much like Morrowind in terms of the Vast worlds and great storyline. Very addicting games. The controls do take about 10-15 minutes of getting used to (try to find a control guide better than the one provided with the game). These games have multiple guilds to join, but ultimately guide you to the same ending. Great games though. I Loved Morrowind and NWN, but in terms of complete emersion into the world of the game, the Gothic games are incredible. Morrowind did the same thing for me, It made me feel like I was "in the game" and I didn't want to stop playing. That is exactly what these games do. Be prepared to spend LONG hours with these games though, they are NOT short. You definitely get your money's worth. As far as MxxCon's comments, to each his own, but I thought the translations were fine and the controls are only confusing if you aren' t familiar with them, and like I said, it only take a few minutes to learn.

They are worth the money, you can grab the game on eBay for cheap.

I would rate these four games as follows:

#1) Gothic I

#2) Tie between Morrowind and Gothic II

Last but definitely not least, NWN.

Check out the Gothic website for more info.
