The XFX-branded version of AMD's Radeon VII is selling for just $499 on both Amazon and Newegg. Being the world's first 7nm consumer GPU, the Radeon VII is an exciting product overall, but the Red Team fans were somewhat let down by the $699 launch price of it.
AMD was offering the Radeon VII as an alternative to Nvidia's RTX 2080 and pegged the GPU at the same price point. Though competitive with the 2080 at 2160p (4K) resolution due to its massive 1TB/s memory bandwidth, it fell behind at the more common 1080p resolution gaming.
The arrival of the similarly performing yet cheaper RTX 2070 SUPER and AMD's own Navi-based RX 5700 series GPUs meant that the Radeon VII at $699 made less sense. As such, the current $200 discount is certainly welcome as it translates into much better value than before.
A major selling point of the Radeon VII is its immense 16GB video memory and even 8K texture packs can be thrown at it without any worry of overflowing the available VRAM buffer. AMD also recently added support for the Radeon Image Sharpening (RIS) feature to Vega-based desktop GPUs, including the Radeon VII. If you do plan to purchase one, make sure to download and install the Radeon Adrenalin display driver version 19.9.3 which will enable RIS on Radeon VII.
It's unclear whether this is just a special Black Friday deal or a permanent cut, so make sure to act fast. You can purchase the XFX Radeon VII at either Newegg or at Amazon. Newegg is also offering a free Xbox Game Pass for PC along with it.
