Last week, Microsoft unveiled an updated development roadmap (DR) for its upcoming Flight Simulator title and also hinted at a Partnership Series announcement being just around the corner. Notably, the firm had revealed the initial set of aircraft companies that it has been collaborating with in regards to the development of the game at X019 last month .
In the latest news regarding the game's development, the firm has described its visit to official aircraft partner CubCrafters. It has also provided an update regarding development goals over the next couple of months. Moreover, Tech Alpha 2 recruitment has now been closed, as Microsoft noted it would in last week's announcement.
This time around, the DR update has been posted in the Insider Area. This means that those interested in viewing it will need to sign up as an Insider. The latest version is more comprehensive and provides more detail regarding the Feature Discovery Series.
The highlight of this week's announcement, however, is the Flight Simulator team's visit to CubCrafters, specifically to discuss its XCub aircraft's simulation in-game. Testing the actual aircraft in real life enabled the testers to make significant improvements to the the Flight Simulator model. These included fine-tuning for the engine's power curve, adjustments to the aircraft's mass distribution and control surface limits, improvements for the prop wash effect on the tail, and more. Microsoft has also mentioned a CubCrafter test pilot's satisfaction with regards to an in-game flight simulation's closeness to their actual flights in real life.
Interestingly, in keeping with last week's post, Microsoft has acknowledged the efforts of another frequent contributor to its official subreddit for the game, r/flightsim. For this week, user /u/horse—-1899 has been recognized for their meme-making ability.
For those who were unable to register for participation in Tech Alpha 2, there is some good news as another recruitment session will be opening in mid-January. However, as Microsoft has stated before, those who applied in the earlier rounds of recruitment but were unable to get registered will be prioritized. As far as invitations for Tech Alpha 2 are concerned, a date has not been finalized yet. Keeping in mind the previously mentioned information, however, it does seem that it possibly won't be happening before February.
