A number of companies such as LG and China's ZTE already pulled out of the Mobile World Congress 2020 due to health concerns over the novel coronavirus outbreak. Today, Swedish multinational networking firm Ericsson announced that it's also withdrawing from the event amid worries related to the virus.
The company will, instead, showcase its demos and content originally meant for MWC 2020 to customers at local events called Ericsson Unboxed. Ericsson's deicision is in adherence to recommendations by national authorities and international bodies such as the World Health Organization.
Regarding the company's decision, Börje Ekholm, President and CEO of Ericsson, said:
“The health and safety of our employees, customers and other stakeholders are our highest priority. This is not a decision we have taken lightly. We were looking forward to showcasing our latest innovations at MWC in Barcelona. It is very unfortunate, but we strongly believe the most responsible business decision is to withdraw our participation from this year’s event.”
MWC 2020 will take place in Barcelona, Spain from February 24 to 27. As the largest trade show in the telecom industry, the event provides huge opportunities for small and large firms to exhibit their products. However, some companies have decided not to take risks and compromise the health and safety of their employees and guests.
