Samsung Galaxy S20 owners complaining of GPS lock issues

A number of Samsung Galaxy S20 owners are reporting GPS issues with their units in apps like Google Maps and Waze. Affected users are reporting that it is taking their Galaxy S20 units up to 10-15 minutes to lock on to GPS satellites. Even after a lock is in place, the GPS location is unreliable and keeps jumping all over the place.

The issue seems to be caused by an underlying software bug as all usual remedies like a device restart, app data cleanup, etc. have not worked. Some users report that they are able to get the GPS to work temporarily by turning off 5G, though the problem pops up again on 4G mode after a while. The problem is being reported by owners of all variants of the Galaxy S20. However, the problem is only being reported by owners of the Snapdragon-powered variant of the Galaxy S20, with international/Exynos variant owners not reporting any such issues.

Some Galaxy S20 owners have gotten their units replaced by Samsung, though the issue continues to persist in the replacement unit as well.

Samsung will likely fix this GPS issue with the next Galaxy S20 update. The company is already working on an update for the devices that will fix the camera app freezes, improve battery life, and more.
