First of all i hope you're all doing well. This virus has affected so many and while some are doing okay there are still many finding life difficult at the moment and worrying about what the next few weeks or even months will bring!

So far for myself things haven't changed too much. One job has cancelled (i'm Self-Employed) and there is the worry that other jobs may soon cancel or be impossible to complete. To be honest i'm not overly bothered by the financial side though. I can like most of you, cope with less money or even none for a shortwhile. My biggest worry and concern is greed. I'm tired of seeing empty shelves because hundreds have descended on the local store or the supermarket and bought everything in sight. I wish i could say it was just panic but the truth is, selfishness is the only thing that is motivating those who are hoarding and putting the rest of us in a difficult position. More to the point, i don't understand why more isn't being done to control the situation.

It upset me a little today when my friend's girlfriend called and said the shops were packed and there wasn't much left when she's pregnant and they have two children to care for already. It made me sad when my grandmother who remembers World War 2 and has experienced poverty wonders out loud why people are being so selfish when they used to be so 'good to each other' during the war. I'm not saying she's remembering those times 100% accurately but why are we seeing people fight over food or worse toilet paper when there are elderly people and young families that need our support and kindness.

Finally i do worry about my own children. When you bring a family into this world or love someone (partner, friend, relative etc) it hurts to think that they might be scared or uncertain. Schools have just closed here in the UK and it feels we are on the cusp of what some countries are going through - total shutdown perhaps or at least a reduction in freedom in order to fight this virus.

Stay safe guys!

Well. It seems people have even stopped commenting on Neowin. Maybe it really is the end of the world.

Well, there's a lot of more global-scale discussion here:

https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1391634-wuhan-coronavirus-covid-19?do=getNewComment

My county's on SIP with a solid several hundred new instances daily. In general I haven't been greatly affected since my workplace is excluded from the shutdown order, but I have avoided going out to stores, public places where people congregate etc, except when absolutely necessary.

No apparently not. Not anybody just asking how anyone else was doing. There's the Wuhan Coronavirus thread, but that's a bit more general. The OP here clearly just wants to know how everyone is and how they are dealing with things? My impression is that everyone is too busy sitting on top of their massive hoard of food and toilet paper to bother with anything like 'community' any more. But whatever I guess.

'Hey, how are you?' has been replaced by 'stay the **** away from me! Maybe you have the virus! I would rather get the virus (and recover, as the vast majority of us would) than live this **** excuse for what some people might still refer to as a life. But hey, ho, I guess.

Doing ok myself.  I had a little issue with a coworker being out sick and coming in contact with his GF would tested positive for COVID.  Luckily he tested negative and after 4 days or so, I was able to go back to work today.   Luckily I can work remotely and my income was not changed.  My job is considered essential.

Currently I am watching over my 95 year old grandfather.  I shop for him, take care of his household needs as well.  My dad came back from TN a week ago after helping to rebuild after a tornado.  They had COVID down there so he is isolating himself for 2wks.  1wk to go.   So I am doing what I can for my parents as well as siblings who are without jobs or had their hours/pay cut.  I buy what I need and a little extra.   That is it.  I am more than happy to give what I need to those who need it more.

And like I said in the other COVID thread, I encourage everyone here to do what they can for their friends, family, or just someone you see who needs assistance.  Only way to get through this tough time is to come together and ignore the negativity and pessimism being spread around.

Take care, be safe, and watch out for yourself and others.

Although the Corona virus is a tyrant  that spares no one, I consider it as a scourge, it has its youth and maturity it never reaches everyone,  soon we no longer hear about it.

Covid-19 - scourge it is; however, it's a particularly EVIL one.  It is an urban-focussed virus that has a particular-pernicious spread characteristic.  The spread characteristic led me DIRECTLY to suspect that the PRC weren't being straight with anyone - including the WHO.  There are cities in the PRC that equate directly with some of the worst-hit urban areas in both the EU and US - yet there is either no data or the data stinks - and I'm not talking JUST Wuhan; what in Ned are they hiding?  Given that lack, I went to my research tools - including my fiction collection.  There IS a precedent - and I'm merely treating it as "possible" due to lack of data - that the fictional Iranian government tried in Tom Clancy's "Executive Orders".  (I am NOT saying that is how it was done; I am merely treating it as a possibility; even in the case of the fictional Iranian government, it was VERY closely-held; large parts of the government knew nothing.)  However, part of the problem is IF I were right, that would mean that the PRC government - at the minimum those behind it - is capable of the kind of reprehensibility not seen since either the Nanking Incident or Hitler's Germany - and have deliberately made victims of a FAR larger part of the planet than both put together.   Do we REALLY want to let them get away with it?  If not, do we - the victims - want to "salt the PRC for one hundred years" in retribution?  This is not Jack Ryan territory - this is Ed Toland territory.  (Cmdr. (USNR) Edwawd Toland was a proto-Jack Ryan in Clancy's second novel, "Red Storm Rising"  His Naval Reserve billet  was in the CINCLANT advisor staff; his "day job" was as an NSA analyst.  This would be the penultimate in crappy news; do we REALLY want to hit the king with it?)  The "opposition" is NOT thinking that the "king" (Trump) will warn the PRC about what is about to land on him; what concerns them is that Trump will actually do what his job will demand - call a meeting of the North Atlantic Council and proceed to plan to have the PRC "salted" (as in nuked) as well as taking the PCA off the table for all eternity.  Why would the PCA be in that much danger?  It will look like the PRC version of a "Trojan horse" - why would any of the victims want any part of it?  As little as I trust the PRC, I'm in Ed Toland's shoes here - I'd much rather be wrong.  Packing a salt shaker THIS big is NOT my idea of fun!

Trump wants to go against Dr. Fauci's suggestion and re-open the country. What do you think of this? Good idea? Bad idea?

Unless they way up testing there is no point in reopening.

Good or bad, I strongly suspect that the CDC is going to override Trump if he tries something like reopening the country.

Also my absolute biggest issue about the way the media is hyping the Covid-19, and recommending everyone wear a mask, is that first and foremost pointless, unless you manage to get the N95 masks, or a full hazmat suit, a regular mask is not going to protect you from getting the virus, what it might do is help stop you from spreading the virus if you have it, but if you have it, you should not be outside! Also the media recommending that everyone wear a mask, is causing a massive shortage of masks for the medical professionals.

spacelordmaster - A problem is that a lot of the same folks that CLAIM to want to support Dr. Fauci want to keep the country closed for another three months - is it safety - or do they want to break the economy or other pernicious aims?  (Have any of the folks that want to keep the nation shut looked at the effects of actions OTHER than social distancing - in particular, keeping businesses closed, mental health issues, etc.?  The pressure merely on the governors - and on President Trump - is also economic - no government is built to survive an extended shuttering of its economic lifeline - taxes.  (Why do you think that EU governments tried to reopen early?  With their larger social safety nets, they are even less designed to survive an longer-term economic shutdown than the US is!  And yet you want to send the US in that direction - bad bad HORRIBLE idea!)  You are all looking at one one area - there are MORE areas that need to be examined in term is where/when to reopen the economy; however, reopening the economy you MUST do.  You can no more afford to be blinkered than President Trump could be; yet you are even MORE blinkered than he is.

Totally bad the way he wants to go about it, but then again, he's a dip ###### that wants to listen to his business buddy's or his in law who is even a bigger dip ######, over the scientific community!

As far as myself and wife, all is good here as of now.

If you are under 50, not obese and have no underlying health conditions, you're more likely to die of; cancer, suicide or an RTA.  We should all be in work but shielding the vulnerable.
