kenterlogic
Alright, so I want to do a complete erase and rewind of my iMac. It is begining to lag an enormous amount and all of my music is off of my PC now so I have nothign to lose really. Anyhow, I am looking around and all I can find is disc 1 of Panther. Now, I can't remember-- but is it possible to do a minimal install of 10.3 with only the first disc?
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted February 8, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 8, 2004 I'm pretty sure you need the 1st and 2nd unless you uncheck just about everything in the install options.
kenterlogic
Ah ha! So, is it POSSIBLE?
SFNE Freak
I believe you have to uncheck BSD Subsystem, which doesn't something really useful (don't remember what it is).
mrelusive978
:ninja: It can be done but your ability to browse Windows networks and share printers with Windows machines will be broken. :ninja:
the evn show
If you uncheck all the options (including stuff like itunes, bsd sub system, language packs, printer drivers) etc then you only need the first disk. I'm somewhat sure the BSD subsystem is also on the first disk, but not 100%. That's not a big deal though: once OS X is installed just go to the disk and browse the packages, you can manually install all of the other stuff later by double clicking on it's package icon. Elliott
do u know any1 u can borrow the disk from, u have the key dont you? OS X doesn't need a key. Yes, it can be done but you'll have a very incomplete setup. I would just get whatever other discs you need off of BitTorrent. You did pay for it (I think), so it should be legal. the evn show
do u know any1 u can borrow the disk from, u have the key dont you? The fact that you don't know OS X doesn't require a CD key makes me suspect you've haven't paid for a copy of OS X in years - or at the very least haven't installed it. I find it hard to believe you bought 10.3 and then lost it before having used the install media even once. It's only $129us for a full version from apple. $69 if you're a student. $40 / license if you have 5 machines: less than a descent cup of coffee per day for a week. No.

No. Fantastic response.. it's too bad the guy you knocked down wasn't even the man in question.

I recently dealt with this situation and yes, it's 100% legal to download software you already own if you can prove that you originally bought it. But then again, even if you haven't.. who checks?
