Following in the footsteps of Sling TV in announcing free on-demand content for customers in the U.S., YouTube Premium, in partnership with T-Mobile, and Amazon Prime Video today introduced a bevy of free streaming content that typically costs a fee. The move is part of a collective effort to help people stuck at home due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
T-Mobile and YouTube Premium have partnered to offer premium, on-demand content at no charge for two months. The free video offering is available through the carrier's T-Mobile Tuesdays program, designed to give customers a selection of free items, deals, and exclusive offers. The offer is available from today through T-Mobile Tuesdays' app for Android or its website for iOS users. You'll need to save each offer in the app or website and click “Redeem” or open the “My Stuff” tab and click “Redeem” to access the free offering.
The partnership allows T-Mobile customers to watch YouTube Premium videos for free, download content for offline viewing, and play videos in the background while opening other apps. This offer also comes with free YouTube Music Premium for two months, and T-Mobile is also offering a free four-week course from Shaw Academy.
Meanwhile, Amazon Prime Video has made some of its family-oriented content free worldwide even for those who don't have a Prime account (via TechCrunch). The offering includes a mix of original content for kids such as Click, Clack, Moo: Christmas at the Farm and Big Diaries, as well as licensed movies and TV series from partner studios. Keep in mind, though, that while original kids and family TV series will be available for free to all Amazon customers worldwide, availability of licensed content will vary by country. The free movies and TV programs can be accessed through the Prime Video app or the Prime Video website.
