Galaxy Note9 owners complain of display issues after March security update

Samsung has been regular with its monthly security patches for not just the current crop of flagship devices, but also for older flagship phones. Devices such as the Note9 that was launched more than 18 months ago began receiving the March security update early on, at least in some markets, with the update gradually making its way to other models across markets. However, it looks like the March security update has been causing some problems for Note9 owners.

Users of the device have taken to the Samsung U.S. community forums over the weekend (spotted by AndroidAuthority) to complain of issues with the screen on the phones. Issues such as screen discoloration issues, including instances where the screen turns into a greenish-yellow tint or drops display resolution have been reported. Users also suggest that the devices become hot while in use, which in some cases is solved by locking/turning off the phone for a while.

The company’s responses to these posts have been tepid. Experts on the forums are suggesting that users authorized Samsung Care locations for technicians to “determine” if the display problems are caused by hardware issues. This is especially difficult for users because, with the outspread of the COVID-19 pandemic, most states have issues stay at home or lockdown orders. Users in the forums seem to stress that the issues began showing up only after the March security patch.

It is unclear if the issue is widespread or if it could indeed be hardware defects affecting a minor set of users. The firm has not yet acknowledged the issues faced by Note9 users.
