Tails 4.5 launches with support for Secure Boot machines

Following the release of Firefox 75 the Tails project has released Tails 4.5 which comes with the latest Tor Browser and support for computers which have Secure Boot enabled. The Tor Browser in this update has been upgraded to version 9.0.9 and includes the fixes for the two zero-day vulnerabilities that were patched in Firefox 74.0.1.

If you are running the previous version of Tails, you should upgrade to the latest version quickly because those bugs in the Tor Browser that were just patched are being exploited in the wild.

To upgrade to the latest version, just boot into Tails 4.2 or later and connect to the internet, you should get a message asking if you’d like to upgrade. If for some reason the upgrade fails or you are running an older version of Tails, you can do a manual upgrade too.

The next update, Tails 4.6, is scheduled for May 5. It’s not clear what new features will be included with the upgrade just yet but you can take a look at the Tails Roadmap to find out about some of the things that are being worked on and could land in upcoming versions.

If you do not have any Tails devices set up yet and want to take a closer look, you can head over to the project’s website, there there is a great set of instructions for getting started no matter whether you’re on Windows, Mac, or Linux.
