SpaceX Crew Dragon DM-2: US returns to crewed launches (mission)

ISS Commercial Crew test flight

Date: May 27

Time: 1632 EDT (20:32 UTC)

Pad: Kennedy Space Center LC-39A

Booster: Falcon 9 B1058.1

Vehicle: Crew Dragon

Booster Recovery: yes

Duration: about 110 days, extended from the original plan of a few days.

About 1 month after DM-2 returns from ISS SpaceX will launch USCV-1, the first fully operational Commercial Crew mission.

They will continue flying USCV (US Crew Vehicle) missions until Boring's troubled Starliner gets its act together, which may be a while. There are only 2 more flightworthy Starliners, so another miscue would put Boeing in a real hurt.

Im so excited for this.

With the above information, would we be expecting USCV-1 to be August/September?

Or will the timeline change because Boeing is not flying and they would want to have hand over between crew?

Roughly August but slips could move it right.

This schedule is driven by tests and ISS staffing needs. Increasingly the latter.

I stumbled upon this at the weekend, it's easy to forget just how long this has been in the works.

Any interior shots of the launch vehicle?  I'm curious to see if they match what Elon showed off when he first unveiled the Dragon 2.

Only image I've seen recently is this but I can't be sure how recent it actually is or if it's from within the actual Dragon 2 itself.

Thanks. I've seen that before but I'd like to see the actual launch vehicle they're sending up.. I guess we'll have to wait for that though.

The training simulator is the same as the flight vehicle, minus any pressurized cargo installed below the deck. Tablets attach to the Commander and Pilot arm rests, and the 3 control panels are redundant - any of them can be used to run the vehicle.

In this side view the control panel is in the up (stowed) position, with the docking port hatch above and side hatch to the right. The toilet system is near the port hatch.

Crew Dragon DM-1 during the mission. "Ripley" test dummy in the left seat. No control panel - it flew robotically. The two windows next to the side hatch have been omitted for better thermal  control.

I haven't heard anything for a while.  Are they done making upgrades to the tower?

The outer skin is finally on, but much more is to come for DoD National Security Space Launch missions; vertical integration in a mobile service tower. Also notice the 19x5.4 meter FH fairing. LC-39A is also getting a Starship pad.

I forgot about the vertical integration/mobile service tower.  Any idea when they start working on that?

One thing is certain, Musk has definitely been influenced by Kubrick's 2001...
