Microsoft's Surface Go 2 will reportedly include a larger 10.5-inch screen

The launch of the Surface Go 2 is imminent. Its predecessor is sold out on the Microsoft Store, it's passed through the FCC, and there are leaked benchmarks everywhere you look. A new report from Zac Bowden of Windows Central says something that we weren't expecting though, that the screen will actually be larger.

According to Zac, there will be a larger 10.5-inch 1920x1280 display, instead of the 10-inch 1800x1200 screen that we had before. The footprint will be the same though, which means that the sizable bezels on the original model will be shrunken down just a bit. A similar change would be the one made from Surface Pro 3 to Surface Pro 4, when the screen was enlarged from 12 inches to 12.3 inches.

As reported previously, we're expecting two CPU options, both of which are from Intel's Amber Lake family. The base model will come with a Pentium Gold 4425Y, and there will be a more expensive model with a Core m3-8100Y. The latter might end up being restricted to the Surface Go 2 for Business.

The rest of the device remains the same, according to the spec sheet provided in the report. It will have integrated graphics, 4GB or 8GB RAM, 64GB eMMC or 128GB SSD, USB Type-C, Surface Connect, microSD expansion, and an IR camera for facial recognition. The starting price will remain at $399.

The slightly larger display is bound to be a welcome addition in the new Surface Go 2, even if performance isn't going to improve in any meaningful way. Aside from performance, the larger bezels were one of the bigger complaints in Surface Go reviews.
