Bruinator
I have a set of usb headphones with volume control with a cord that is 6 feet long. I am looking for an optical to usb adapter with an extended cord so my 91 yr old, hard of hearing mom can watch tv at the volume she prefers. I have spent the past few hours looking around on the yet but cant find anything. I prefer to spend around $30. Does anyone know where i can find such a device? Any help is greatly appreciated. neoraptor
Try on aliexpress, if you can't find it there, you won't anywhere. If it is for TV you might consider bluetooth headphones and bluetooth transceiver hooked to the TV. It will give here some freedom to move. Otherwise you might grab normal headphones and add volume control - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32858981351.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.3fd71b8fJY7dhk&algo_pvid=1124d11b-9bae-41cc-9e4c-d8dd2b2c7ace&algo_expid=1124d11b-9bae-41cc-9e4c-d8dd2b2c7ace-0&btsid=0ab6d59515888795134446120e3de6&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_ If optical is a must, you need DAC. Steven P. Administrators Posted May 7, 2020 Administrators Share Posted May 7, 2020 When you say optical do you mean the connector that transfers light, or is it the tulip coaxial kind? I think you will need to buy a convertor https://www.amazon.com/Signstek-Coaxial-Converter-Convert-Analogue/dp/B00FEDHHKE?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1 I had to buy one for my digital 2.1 speaker set to connect with a Dell XPS 8930 I used for a while. Brandon H Supervisor Posted May 7, 2020 Supervisor Share Posted May 7, 2020 I'd love to be proven wrong here but I don't think your going to find a full solution for this kind of conversion which is probably why you've been hitting a dead end. USB headsets usually require drivers to use; they're not generally generic. If there is an adapter it would have to be a full conversion box as they're 2 different types of signals. and if the converter box works you'd lose the volume controls of the headset most likely. Steve, i need the optical connector on the left which will hook up to my lg tv that has female optical port so that looks good but will I be able to hook up that item you linked to my usb headphones with no issues? Would I need to get a cord extender with a female connector on both end to connect them for my desired length?

Steven P. Administrators Posted May 7, 2020 Administrators Share Posted May 7, 2020 maybe it will work with such a cable in between the DAC https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/32606422600.html usb headphones -> usb female -> 3.5mm jack -> DAC -> optical to TV \ Maybe check if there is a green analog 3.5mm jack option on the TV too, because then you'll only need that dollar adapter Bruinator 1 Share

Most USB headsets include a cheap USB sound card and wont work without said soundcard being detected by an OS. Basically the OS or console it is connected to wont interact with the headset but with the soundcard included. I don't think it's possible but i might be wrong. Before buying anything i would make sure if a USB sound card is included with the headset (more than likely) than said soundcard will be compatible with the adapter. binaryzero
The easiest option would be to purchase the correct headset required to be plugged into your Mum's TV, not hack a USB headset you had lying around to work with it. Chances of it working are slim, to none. Bruinator 1 Share
Mindovermaster Moderator Posted May 8, 2020 Moderator Share Posted May 8, 2020 As said above, a BT headset will be a better idea... Don't try to hack an old USB headphone for something it isn't meant to do.
