Recycle Bin Text - How Do I Get Rid Of It?

Recommended Posts

it's easy :)

open notepad, and write this:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}ShellFolder]

"Attributes"=hex:50,01,00,20

"CallForAttributes"=dword:00000000

then, save it as a .reg file. NOT .txt.

open it, click yes, and u're done.

now go to the recycle bin, right click, and choose rename.

enjoy ;)

I found this little trick a while ago (I wish I could give credit to the site, but I really can't remember which one it was, I just copied it into a text file in my documents.)

Making Icons with No Text

1. Open Character Map (Start>Accessories>System Tools), select a common font, for example Arial, then look for a blank character (empty square) and click on it (make sure that it pops up as an empty square), then hit Select, then Copy.

2. Now right-click the icon of your choice, choose Rename, delete all the text in the namespace, then right-click the empty name space and select Paste, then hit Enter (or click on another area or file name).

3. If you want to have 2 or more icons in the same area (on the desktop or in the same folder) with no text, then you need to add different numbers of the "blank" character to their name spaces. For example, after making the first icon with no text as instructed above, to make a second icon with no text in the same area, you need to add 2 "blank" characters by doing Paste twice (so that it has a different name).

4. This also works for files and folders, not just icons.

This way is a bit easier for some people, and no messing with the registry. For the recycle bin you'll need a program that will rename it for you. (Unless yours is like mine and you can just right-click -> rename. Apparently that is different on some PCs for some reason)

Try SnagIt if you don't mind paying for one :D

By the way, how can I remove the text on other icons in my desktop? :ermm:

just do the same renaming trick I mentioned on the last page. To get it to work, you may need to switch the charator map to the font you're using on the desktop. Then for each icon copy a different lenght of blanks (Otherwise it may complain that there is already an icon named that, I had to do that with some of my folders)
