The Call of Duty factory of Activision is slated to pump out a new entry this year, and just like in previous years, leaks are starting to happen regarding the name and setting. According to a new report by Eurogamer that corroborates a leak by prominent Call of Duty leakster Okami, the upcoming title will be named Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
A separate report from last year stated that the 2020 Call of Duty's reigns had been handed over to Treyarch, moving the original developers Raven Software and Sledgehammer to support studio positions. That report also said the game had a historical Cold War setting, taking the series back to its roots much like the massively popular Modern Warfare reboot by Infinity Ward.
The Call of Duty: Black Ops series began its journey in 2010, making this a good year to bring back the popular sub-franchise that spawned four entries over the years. The fourth game, stylized as Black Ops IIII, from 2018 did not deliver a single-player experience, and instead arrived with co-op zombie, multiplayer, and battle royale modes. We will have to see what the triple studio initiative will deliver this time if the reports are accurate.
The free-to-play Call of Duty Warzone will tease players with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War hints until a full announcement later, per the Eurogamer report. Barring delays, the next Call of Duty should land around October or November of this year.
