Hoping more details comes out from the officers reported misconducts over the years.  Will shed a light on things.

Understood.  But the situations are completely different.  Noor didn't have Damond pinned to the ground while kneeling on her neck for a period of time.

Yeah, he just point blank shot her without any physical threat.

Yes, it's obviously different in the specifics of it, but still same ###### different day to me.

Is it just me or does the Mayor look like Patrick Dempsey

I just hope this doesn’t set a dangerous precedent. If you want to get someones attention and get justice done quickly, all you have to do is riot, Loot, burn down a bunch of business and cause havoc.

I understand the concern ... but maybe none of it would have happened if they had perhaps reacted more swiftly.

... Not that I think there is any justification for arson and theft ... especially among those who had nothing to do with the officers. It really hurts the community too ...

Or maybe, just maybe, it'll make racist officers think twice before applying lethal force for no risk encounters.. and the ones that continue won't be shielded by corrupt administrations?

"You don't do it by appearing criminal yourself," Sharpton said. "We are not the ones that inflict the pain. We are the ones that have been pained, and our reaction must show that and highlight that. Otherwise, people will exploit that and change the focus into demonizing those that conduct themselves in a violent way rather than those saying, as the Floyd family is saying, we want justice."

"Some of the stores that are being damaged are black-owned stores!" Sharpton exclaimed. "So we cannot become so reckless that we are destroying each other in our rage."

wtf is happening down there

A senior Detroit area police  commander who worked in the area said on our news their training is for crap, especially as regards rights, community relations, handling the mentally ill, you name it.

ISTM their problem departments need to be placed under federal court approved supervision. After signing a consent decree with AG's office, Chicago was placed under supervision last year.

So he should have gotten away with murdering an innocent man?

No thanks. If this is what it takes to get the bad guys, then go for it.

Tell that to this man

The men who killed Floyd are or will soon be charged.

The protests over cops who abuse their authority are good, but they need to be non-violent. Otherwise it's an exercise in hypocrisy.

The bad part is that extremists on both sides are using this to cause anarchy for their own reasons.  On one side we have the violent right like skinheads & neo-nazis, and on the other we have violent leftist groups like the US version of ANTIFA - which was classified a domestic terror group under Obama.

Neither deserves the excuses they get from the center right or center left.

When this started I mentioned the Possee Comitatus Act, which makes civilian law enforcement by the US military illegal, but there is an exception under the Insurrection Act for riots and insurrections.

...domestic violence has occurred to such an extent that the constituted authorities of the State or possession are incapable of maintaining public order.

Under the Insurrection Act a federal emergency can be declared and troops used to regain control. During the Detroit riots of 1967 this included the use of armored vehicles and 6,000 federal troops. In each state the governors can call out the National Guard, and they can be nationalized by POTUS.

George Floyd's brother criticizes violent protesters: 'Don’t tear up your town'

https://www.foxnews.com/us/george-floyds-brother-criticizes-violent-protesters-dont-tear-up-your-town

Quote

"Don’t tear up your town, all of this is not necessary because if his own family and blood is not doing it, then why are you?" Terrence Floyd told the news organization. "If his own family and blood are trying to deal with it and be positive about it, and go another route to seek justice, then why are you out here tearing up your community? Because when you’re finished and turn around and want to go buy something, you done tore it up. So now you messed up your own living arrangements. So just relax. Justice will be served."

The violence is uncalled for.  Even Black leaders as well as victim families are saying to knock it off.  All the violence is doing it taking away from what the protests should be about.  And that is Police mistreating the public.  Instead people are focusing on the violence and looting.  This has happened before.  Also, there have been more people killed because of the looting/violence.

There were even protests in my small little town I live in currently yesterday.  Peaceful during the day, turned violent at night.  Throwing rocks, damaging property.  Police had to use tear gas and rubber bullets.

The issue is when the looting and destroying of property happens, it starts to overshadow the real protest and the real progress in discussions.

Last night in Atlanta we avoided more destruction after an APD officer and protesters shook hands and agreed to walk away, ending the protests for the night

Portland, an officer took a knee and shook hands with the protesters

Same here in my little niche of the state of Michigan. Actually had full blown riot in Grand Rapids though with burning cars and looting of stores!

I always wonder just what looting and destroying things and all that has to do with anything when protesting? Don't hose idiots who participate in that kind of stupidity realize how bad that makes everything about what they're doing look?
