OnePlus has been heavily teasing the upcoming launch of its mid-range handset, the OnePlus Nord. Today, the company's co-founder Carl Pei has revealed in an interview with TechRadar that the Nord will feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765G chipset. The device will also feature 5G connectivity which is more about "ease of mind" and "future-proofing" rather than about offering the bleeding-edge technology.
He also notes in the interview that the company created another dedicated team to work on its mid-range product lineup to get "every little detail right, as we did on flagship [phones]."
While Carl did not reveal the camera specs of the OnePlus Nord, he did talk about it in the interview noting that with the device, the company is "bringing a flagship-level camera to the mid-range price range, which I think consumers are going to be really excited by." Rumors suggest the OnePlus Nord will feature a triple-camera setup that will include a 64MP primary shooter. It is this camera setup which Pei believes will help the OnePlus Nord standout in a crowded mid-range segment. The company is also banking on its brand name and quality to lure customers. For this, the company is testing the Nord to the same standard as its flagship phones.
Pei says the company has the understanding to make a great mid-range phone.
"A great camera, a really fast, smooth and fluid experience, and a device made by somebody you trust to make a good phone. That's the entire concept behind the first product, the OnePlus Nord."
As for pricing, OnePlus CEO Lau confirmed to the publication that the OnePlus Nord will be priced at €500 in Europe. The company has already confirmed that the Nord will be available in India and Europe, though the company also intends to launch a "highly limited beta program" in the United States for selected users.
